Mission Statement

We believe that the simple messages of love, respect, acceptance, understanding and tolerance are the backbone of our society. The mentally challenged live and breathe this message everyday and remind us daily of these basic necessities.

Our purpose is to empower and provide opportunities for these citizens by providing meaningful work and a sense of accomplishment. We want to assist these special members of our community by bringing their creativity and zest for life into the public eye. The mentally challenged are contributors to the common god and society can only benefit from active involvement with these citizens.

Our scope must be inclusive in the uniting of the generations. To achieve this, we will provide opportunities that will enhance their sense of self worth and promote community service. It is important that all people are acknowledged for their contributions to society.

We are dedicated to perpetuating the examples as set by Christopher Mundy in his lifetime. Christopher Mundy was a mentally challenged adult with Kabuki syndrom who brought a smile to the face of everyone he met.
Christopher J. Mundy
December 17, 1966 - November 25, 2001

Christopher Mundy was the seventh and last child born to James and Virginia Mundy of Bala Cynwyd, Pennslyvania. Although he had various health issues from birth, he was not diagnosed as mentally retarded until he was 4 years of age. This diagnosis only made him more special to his parents and his siblings. The family made the decision immediately to begin working on his weaknesses and his strengths so that he could communicate effectively with others and live as normal a life as possible. Little did we know what he would teach us about life and respect for all people.

The teachers he had at both Cole Manor and Eisenhower schools in Norristown, PA worked wonders with him. This was not surprising as Chris was such a people person who always brought a smile to anyone he encountered. Early on Chris became fascinated with birthdays. One of the first questions he would ask anyone when he first met them was, "When is your birthday?" He would quickly reply back what day of the week that person's birthday was that year. If questioned further, we discovered that he could you what day of the week your birthday was in any given year.

As he matured, Chris decided he would like to call people on their birthday and sing "Happy Birthday" to them. Initially, it started out with family and then the list grew to include friends of the family and even the nurses and doctors he would encounter during his many visits to such hospitals as the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and later at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA. He would also call the children of these friends who had never even met him. Before you knew it, many people anxiously awaited their call from Christopher on their birthday.

Towards the end of his life, there were not many days where Chris did not ask his mother to call someone so that he could wish them a Happy Birthday. He brought joy and unconditional love into the world and we, his family and friends, would like to perpetuate that. Thus we have formed this foundation. Join us as we celebrate the life of a loving and giving person who brought a smile to the face of everyone he encountered in his life.
